Last weekend we went to the grand opening of the new 21st Amendment Brewery in San Leandro. It is a huge production facility and big tasting room compared to the one in San Francisco. There is a lot of space, an outdoor area for food trucks, and a restaurant is supposed to be built soon. It is on the other side of the fence from Drake's Barrel House.
We went with the hopes of having some Grand Opening Batch 0001, but they had run out by the time we go there. We still got some exclusive beers; the San Leandro Cherry Wheat and the Batch 1000 IPA.
This weekend was SF Beer Week and on one of our visits to the city, we learned that there
were several breweries making special strong beers. The three we knew about were Speakeasy Ales & Lagers
,
21st Amendment, and Magnolia Pub. Although I had been to 21st Amendment and Speakeasy's strong beer month events (which coincide with SF Beer Week),
the blog post on Speakeasy's site about a beer named Strong Man really convinced me that I needed to go.
On a recent road trip from Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon, we were on the lookout for some craft breweries. To our surprise, we actually found quite a few. You know the craft brewing revolution is in full effect when you can find a great brewery even at a small town far from the big cities.
Welcome to my new beer site! For my first post, I thought it would be appropriate to talk about the most epic beer event of the year: The Great American Beer Festival. GABF 2014 was a massive event as usual, perhaps with less gimmicks than the year before. I had a couple beer celebrity sightings: Sam Calagione from Dogfish Head and Garrett Oliver from Brooklyn Brewery.
